Tufts Tech Transfer visits Universidad de Valparaiso (Chile)
Under its activities in global technology transfer, Tufts Tech Transfer recently visited the Universidad de Valparaiso (Chile) to provide training classes on intellectual property management and licensing to their technology transfer and research administration offices. As an invited guest, Colm Lawler worked with the Director of their Technology Transfer office (Mr. Jaime Urra Arayo) to provide these focused classes which were also accompanied by two formal lectures to members of the Valparaiso community. In addition to these classes and lectures, Colm also had individual meetings with members of the overall innovation ecosystem of the Universidad and this included their Director of Research Administration as well as representatives from their School of Engineering in which the issue of enhancing innovation and start-up companies from the academic research environment were each discussed. Finally, Colm also met with a number of other constituents from the local community to discuss IP licensing and start-up company formation and this included representatives from an additional university (Universidad Tecnia Frederico Santa Maria) as well as a local university derived start-up company (Farmacopea Chilena). Commenting on the visit, Colm stated “I was impressed by the efforts of the Universidad de Valparaiso to grow its technology transfer program and look forward to advancing our collaboration in areas of mutual interest over the years ahead”.
